National Projects Director: Dr. Oktay Erbatur
Oktay Erbatur joined ICHET after thirty years of
academic life in Çukurova University. His specific fields
of expertise are the liquefaction and gasification of
biomass and fossil fuels. He also carried out various
research works on supercritical media. His most recent
research work is related with developing advanced
electrolytic and thermolytic techniques for the production
of hydrogen from water and from lignocellulosic biomass.
Dr. Erbatur had carried out various international research
projects in collaboration with researchers from the
University of Sherbrooke, CANMET-Canada, Colorado State
University, Pennsylvania State University and Texas A&M
University. He has received substantial grants from IDRC of
Canada, AID of USA, TUBITAK and DPT of Turkey and
established a strong research group and laboratories on
fuel research in Çukurova University. He has won the TUSMES
award as the coordinator of the “Best Creative (Novel)
Project Proposal” submitted from Turkey in 2005 to the
“Frame Programme 6” of the European Union. He acted as the
chairman of the Chemistry Department of Cukurova University
and the chairman of the Advisory Board of USAM-TUBITAK
during 2000-2003 and is now a member of the Advisory Board
of The Marmara Research Centre of TUBITAK in Gebze.
Senior Project Engineer: Dr. Osman Malik Atanur
O.Malik Atanur got his B.S. degree in chemistry from
Cukurova University (CU) in 1999. During his doctoral
studies, he studied the extraction, fractionationation,
isolation and molecular characterization of bioactive
compounds from various cultural or natural plants. He
graduated in 2008. He worked as teaching and research
assistant in the Chemistry Department of Cukurova
University from 2000 to 2008. Then he studied as a visitor
scientist in Westminster University, London Sought Bank
University and North East Wales Institute of UK with the
British Council grants . He has improved his knowledge and
skills regarding theoretical and practical aspects on
diverse methods of analytic instrumentation and related
subjects. Besides common chromatographic and spectroscopic
techniques, he also has experience using sophisticated
analytical instruments like tandem MS applications,
HPSEC-MALLS and NMR techniques. While he was in
Dr.Erbatur’s research group in C.U., he also experienced on
high pressure/high temperature extraction and reaction
processes. Osman Malik Atanur has been working as a senior
project engineer for the Centre since March 2008. His main
responsibility in the center is to assist and carry out
national projects especially hydrogen production from
biomass.
