roofing and wood structure (© Çelik Erengezgin).A significant part of the treaty establishing ICHET detailed the erection, on land provided by the Turkish Government, of buildings suitable for the operation of a full-size international centre. Present plans include an administration building, a conference hall to seat audiences of up to 400, four laboratories and a workshop, catering facilities and accommodation for visiting scientists. When complete, some fifty full-time staff and up to fifteen visitors are expected to be employed at the new centre. The buildings will be required to use energy efficient designs with renewable resources such as wind and solar power providing significant energy to the campus. Building is scheduled to begin late in 2007 on a picturesque site in the Istanbul suburb of Alibeyköy and expected to be completed early in 2009.
