Biomass Hydrogen Project
Consortium Partners: ICHET, Pankobirlik, Erikoğlu Holding, Sanko Holding.Budget: US$ 755,390.
Status: Together with Panko Birlik, ICHET applied for UNDP’s new funding program called “Millenium Development Goal”. The project proposal is being evaluated by UNDP. If it is approved, a funding of 700,000 USD will be received.
Description: The project will demonstrate production of hydrogen from biomass which is the cheapest hydrogen production method.
The aim of the project is to produce hydrogen from sweet sorghum and sugar beet energy crops which have 14-18% sugar content and high calorific value. In the initial stage of the project, sweet sorghum and sugar beet seeds will be planted. After harvesting the crops, hydrogen will be produced through mechanical, biological and thermo-chemical processes.
In total 4 hectares will be planted with 10 kg of sweet sorghum seeds and 6 kg sugar beet seeds. From the planted area approximately 16.8 tonnes hydrogen will be produced.
